2017 Acts of Love Summer Lunch Program
The 2017 Acts of Love Summer Lunch Program will begin on Monday, June 12, 2017, at noon. In Denver Borough, lunches will be served at the Denver Memorial Park in the pavilion at the end of the driveway. The 2017 Summer Lunch Program has been developed through a partnership between the Cocalico School District and the Cocalico Ministerium and is funded through a state grant and Ministerium funds.
In 2017, students age 18 and under, including preschool age, are fed for free under the grant funding. Students are not limited to people within the Cocalico School District - these meals are available to any student from any state, so there is no geographic limit to the people served.
The Cocalico Ministerium will be covering the expense for the food for anyone not covered by the grant program. No one will be denied a meal and there is no cost to anyone not covered by the grant funding. The grant will not prevent any person of any age from being fed a free meal.
Each meal will have five (5) components in which at least three (3) of those components must be taken for the meal. The components are: Protein, Whole Grain, Fruit, Vegetable, and Milk (1%/ fat free/ fat free flavored milk). The meals must be eaten on site. This is an important change mandated by the grant procedures and differs from past practice where we have allowed meals to be taken for those who could not physically be present. Everyone who wishes a meal must eat at the distribution locations.
There is no registration required to participate in this program. Instead, because of the grant funding, program volunteers will keep a count of who attended and who was fed. Accordingly, the churches will have people who will merely be recording if you are a student covered by the grant; a worker covered by the grant; others (these will be so the Ministerium churches can reimburse the school for the cost of meals), and what is left (wastage for meals not served under the prior categories).
The Borough encourages you to use this resource. The meals are a great help and are critical for our children during the summer. We hope to see you at the meal distributions.
